The VOR gap between the top two backs and the rest of Tier 1 is striking: McCaffrey and Robinson clear the field by roughly 60 points of value over replacement before you even reach Achane, Gibbs or Barkley. That's a real signal — those two aren't just this year's best runners, they're workhorses in offenses built to feed them 20-plus touches, while the rest of Tier 1 leans more on efficiency and receiving work to close the gap.
The reach list is where rookie hype shows up hardest. Three of the five biggest reaches — Hampton, Tuten and Skattebo — are first-year backs pushed inside the top 40 picks on name and draft-capital buzz, while our valuation still treats their workload as unresolved. None of them has a full season of usage data to lean on, so the range of outcomes on those profiles is genuinely wider than any single projection number can capture.
On the flip side, the value list skews toward backs with defined roles that the market seems to discount for lack of star power: Tracy Jr., Kamara, Charbonnet and Marks all project as solid contributors, either as early-down grinders or passing-down complements, yet they're going 60-90 picks later than our numbers put them. That's less about hidden talent and more about the market underpricing steady touch volume once a name feels 'known.'
Worth flagging too — the ranks in the value and reach sections reflect overall draft position across all players, not just running backs. So when Pollard shows up at overall rank #32 despite sitting 14th among backs, that's less a contradiction than a reminder of how deep the position is: even a low-end RB1 profile doesn't need to come off the board in the first two rounds.
