Live Elo ratings for the current ATP and WTA tours — built from head-to-head results (Sackmann dataset). Only currently-active players are listed; surface ratings (hard / clay / grass) are tracked separately, so a player can rank far higher on their best surface. Search by name, switch tours, and sort by any surface.

Elo turns a player's results into a single strength number. Win against a higher-rated opponent and you gain more points; lose to a lower-rated one and you drop more. Unlike the official ATP and WTA rankings — which are points tables rewarding how far you go in tournaments — Elo is a pure measure of how likely you are to beat a given opponent right now, which is why it often disagrees with the world rankings and tends to predict match results better.
Tennis is unusual in how much the surface matters, so we track a separate Elo for hard, clay and grass alongside the overall rating. A clay specialist can sit mid-table overall yet rank among the very best on dirt; a big server can jump on grass. Surface ratings need a decent sample on that surface to stabilise, so early in a swing they lean on the overall number.
These ratings are built from the open Jeff Sackmann match dataset and update after every completed match. The same Elo difference feeds the win probabilities in our tennis model: roughly a 100-point edge is about a 64% chance to win a single match. Use the search and surface sort above to compare any two players, or read the full match previews from the tennis hub.
Elo updates after every match. Surface Elo needs more matches on that surface to stabilise. The bold cell is the player's strongest surface.
